Mr. Tjebo Heeren MD PhD FEBO MRCOphth

Tjebo is an ophthalmologist specialising in medical retina, cataract and research. He is a Consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

After his residency in Germany, he joined Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2016 where he has stayed ever since. Here, he has completed fellowships in medical retina, uveitis, cataract, urgent eye care, and in research.

Teaching

Tjebo is a keen teacher. He trains ophthalmology residents in medical retina and cataract surgery.

He developed two online courses for Moorfields education: Introduction to data science for clinicians and Data science for clinicians: Intensive course in R.

Further, he has given many seminars and lectures about macular telangiectasia type 2 (MacTel), both nationally and internationally (London, Epsom, Belfast, Lucerne, Zagreb, Rio de Janeiro, New York)

Further interests and achievements

  • Tjebo enjoys playing music and doing exercise as a balance to his worklife.
  • He plays the violin and viola to grade 8+.
  • He ran six marathons (personal record 2 h 55 min) and many half marathons (personal record 1 h 20 min).
